Northampton Community College Unveils Fab Lab Print E-mail

Northampton Community College will unveil its new “Fab Lab” at an open house at noon on October 8th. The lab is designed to make advanced manufacturing technology accessible to any potential entrepreneur who has a dream to create something. Engineers, artists, architects, crafters, college students, and even young children can find valuable resources at the Fab Lab.

Based on a model developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Fab Lab at NCC includes a laser cutter-etcher networked with six computers, a rapid prototyper 3D printer, a CNC router, two programmable sewing machines, a well-equipped wood shop, ten new computers with a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design software and a variety of other tools and machines to support local entrepreneurs.

Northampton Community College offers a variety of courses on how to use the equipment.

The facility will soon include the “Entrepreneurs’ Resource Room” which will provide individuals who are interested in starting their own business with resources and contacts to local agencies and organizations that can help them get started.

The Fab Lab is located on the third floor of Northampton Community College's FowlerFamily Southside Center at 511 East Third Street in Bethlehem. Visit
