In early September the Google geeks started pushin’ Chrome, a new product to compete over web browser cyber turf with rival gangs Microsoft (Internet Explorer) and Mozilla (Firefox). Here’s the 411 so you don’t get caught in the crossfire:
Critics agree --- Chrome will save you time with faster, more organized surfing.
Like Google’s search engine, Chrome is clean with a minimalist appearance and organizes tabs for user-friendly management. With Chrome, pages load faster and allow for improved multitasking, and the browser won’t seize up and close. This will save you time and aspirin. Oh yeah, and the F word we all like to hear – its FREE!
Since most of you are too lazy to read (which is why you are here at a web video magazine), here are the unique features in video format:
Two things the critics noted was that Chrome didn’t reduce the amount of processing power the computer used. In head to head tests, Chrome used less CPU load than Firefox but significantly more than Explorer. This slows down other programs and work you are doing simultaneously. Also, Chrome lacks the add-on tools to customize and change browser settings.
The verdict? Chrome may be a good alternative if you have an old (very old) browser. Otherwise, wait the Googlers to finish polishing Chrome and check out the new Internet Explorer 8. Keep in mind Chrome is only a .20 release as only final editions qualify for a full integer.
